I have come across you blog accidently. Interesting arena for NFP’s to have discussions related to accounting isues.
I happen to be researching on accounting treatment for sale of internally generated carbon offsets. Is there anyone out there who has dealt with this particularly in the light of a land conservation organization whose mission is to protect flora and fauna? Time is of essence to me as we have passed our usual timeline for audited financials.

I have not researched this issue lately, but do know that the FASB is still deliberating the topic. You may get the latest FASB information by googling “FASB Accounting for Emissions”. The last update was December 6, 2010. After our organization evaluated the transactions that led me to create the blog “accounting for environmental assets”, we did not move forward with the activities which would create internally generated carbon offsets. Without this practical application knowledge, the FASB site and the others referenced in my blog are the best resources I know of to help you with this question. Best of luck!
